WORKERS COMPENSATION

Workers’ Compensation insurance covers employee workplace injuries, including injuries they may incur while traveling for the employer (not including the commute to and from work).

Did you know...

  • That In the state of Georgia, employers are required to carry workers’ comp if they employ three or more persons, part-time or full-time? If you are self-employed, you can choose to include or not include yourself in the policy, which will also determine if coverage is required. Even if you only have one employee, and are not legally required to have this insurance, you may want to purchase it to avoid costly litigation. Workers’ Compensation falls under the regulatory authority of the State Board of Workers Compensation.
  • That premiums are initially based on the claims experience of your industry - classification codes are assigned by the state - and your estimated total annual payroll? The actual premium is calculated at the end of the policy term, based on an audit of your actual payroll for the policy term. Over time, your premium may go up or down based on the claims from your business. If you have a written safety program in place, some companies will offer a discount.
  • That at the end of the policy term, you may be asked to provide copies of your 941 forms and/or a payroll summary for the policy term? Knowing and being prepared for this can make this process go much smoother.
