HOME-BASED BUISNESS
Home-based businesses have been growing in popularity in the last several decades. With the recent loss of jobs, home-based businesses have been started out of necessity. Ranging from one person in a small office to large warehouses on personal property with several employees and thousands of dollars in equipment and inventory, all home-based businesses must comply with the same regulations and should carry the same insurance as traditional businesses.
Did you know...
- That typical
homeowners policies do not cover home businesses, and personal auto policies do not cover vehicles used for business? - That an injury sustained by a delivery person delivering goods or supplies to your home for your business would probably not be covered by your personal insurance?
- That home-based businesses that provide a service also need professional liability?

There are new and emerging coverages offered for home-base businesses. If your business only entails you and a small amount of office equipment, you may just need an endorsement to your homeowners policy to cover the equipment and limited liability, with a separate policy for professional liability. If your business is larger, with more employees and a greater value invested in business assets, you may opt for a Business Owners Policy.
Some insurance companies are beginning to offer In-Home Business Insurance which covers property and general liability. You may still need to add professional liability and business vehicle insurance.
